Celebrating the hockey season

Swan River Minor Hockey (SRMH) came together last Thursday (April 13) at the Elbert Chartrand Friendship Centre for one last evening of fun, food and friendship to close out the 2016-17 season.

Athletes were invited to enter the many door prize draws and were treated to snacks and drinks before the awards portion of the evening began.

SRMH President, Derek Henkelman, opened the evening by sharing some of the many highlights from the season.

“I am so proud of the great season we just had,” he said. “We had 150 registered, with 34 of those being squirts, which gave us the right number to have AA status.

“We had a midget team for the first time in a number of years, and all four teams that participated in Provincials brought home medals.”

Henkelman acknowledged the hard working rink staff in the Valley who maintained great facilities and were accommodating to the changing schedules of the hockey world.
