Tigers open season with loss to clippers

The SVRSS Tigers kicked off the season in Dauphin last Friday (Sept. 8) with a disappointing 63-0 loss against the Clippers.
But, Head Coach Justin Petelski does not feel that this is an omen for the season ahead and is looking positively at the group of talented players on his roster.
“Historically, we have always been slow starters and I hope that this group of guys can adapt and make a comeback like we have in years prior,” he said.
“There are a lot of first year guys out – Grade 9s and 10s – that are seeing their first action in a senior game.”
A total of 23 players hit the road for the trip which was up from last year’s 18.
“Seven of these players were seeing their first game of football and they were on the starting lineup,” said Petelski. “They had been practicing for three weeks but had never played a regular game.
“It was an adjustment for them to make. We also had a number of players playing both offence and defence, which is hard to do at the beginning of the year when they aren’t conditioned for it.”
